Still in Cave City, KY
Today, we woke up to a beautiful sunrise over the corn fields.Once we got ourselves together, we headed off to tour the caverns at Mammoth Caves National Park.
As we were preparing to go down in the cavern, they asked that anyone who had been down in a cave in the past 5 years step forward (they are apparently trying to prevent the spread of something called white nose disease among the bats). We told them that we were in Carlsbad Caverns a couple of years ago. They asked if we were wearing any of the same clothes (of course not) and if we had take a bath or shower since them (I told them that we'd taken several).
Based upon our experience trying to take pictures in Carlsbad Caverns a couple of years ago (non-flash pictures come out black - flash only hits the nearby objects), we didn't even bother trying this time. We did take a couple of pictures on the way out of the cavern.
And here's one looking back at the entrance.
It was pretty amazing when we came out of the cavern. Inside, the temperature about 54 degrees year round (glad that we wore our sweatshirts). As we came out into a 90+ degrees, very humid environment, Kristen's glasses instantly fogged over. We still had an unpleasant 1/4 mile uphill climb.
