Day 59: Front Royal, VA (cont.)

Still in Front Royal, VA:

First things first: Yesterday, connectivity was bad and I kept the post short (adding pictures later). Kristen wanted me to be sure to mention the entrance to our RV park the next time I posted. The Front Royal RV Park has a sign on the highway. When you turn, you head straight through the yard of a dairy farm. Passing over a cattle grate at the far end of the yard, you pass through about 3/4 mile of a hilly, windy single lane road through a cow filled pasture. I don't know what you'd do if you were to run into another RV on this road. The park owners say it's never a problem because RV's go out in the morning and come in in the afternoon. Eventually, you cross a second cow grate and enter the park.

Today, we visited Shenandoah National Park. We had planned to tow the trailer over the length of it tomorrow. Now that we've seen most of that route without the trailer, I think that we'll probably take a slightly less adventurous route tomorrow.

A lot of beautiful scenery today.  Shenandoah NP runs for about a hundred miles down the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Skyline Drive runs the length and is just about the only road in the park. Every mile or so along the road is another spectacular overlook. The overlooks look across lower hills and valleys full of farms to distant ranges of hills. This morning, the world was in cloud and we were above it. The clouds cleared somewhat as our day progressed.

These are just some random shots that Kristen took from the various overlooks:

This one's for (Skylanders fan) Niko. We had lunch at the high point along Skyline Drive, the small outpost of Skylander.

We actually saw some wildlife today. First a groundhog grazing at the side of the road (Kristen didn't get a picture). Then a black bear and a deer.
