Still in Boothbay, ME:
Yesterday, we really didn't get far beyond our campground. Today, we set out early to explore the area. First, we all headed to a beach that Briar had spotted on the map. She wanted to complete her "kids at the Pacific / kids at the Atlantic" series of photos. After that, we all visited Maine's state aquarium. Very, very small aquarium but the kids enjoyed it.
The next stop was downtown Boothbay Harbor. We were very lucky to find 2 adjoining unmetered parking spots and avoid the $10 parking lots. We looked through the shops, had a nice lunch out on the water, and walked across the footbridge that crosses the harbor.
Next, we decided to visit a lighthouse. Pemaquid Point Lighthouse showed up on our search as the closest - 6 miles. Apparently, that was as the crow flies and we were at the end of a point and it was at the end of another. The actual drive was more like 20 miles. Still, it was worth it. The spot was beautiful and the lighthouse has a lot of history.
The day's not over. We're getting ready to barbecue some burgers and Niko is pushing for miniature golf across the road (we'll have to see if that happens).
