Stop 34: Harrisburg, PA
Today, we moved about 129 miles down the road to a spot on the Eastern edge of Harrisburg. After getting the trailer set up, we immediately set off to explore the Lancaster County / Pennsylvania Dutch area. Our first stop was the Lancaster County Visitors Center where they were very helpful in telling just where to find the elusive Amish folk.
We were directed to the town of Intercourse, PA.
We were warned that Intercourse would be very commercialized (it was) and that most Amish avoid the town (though we did find a few).
We were told that we'd need to drive the country roads surrounding the town to actually find the Amish. We didn't see a whole lot of people but we did see some of the prettiest farms that we've ever seen. It was interesting that everything about the farms seemed to be in perfect condition with the exception of the houses.
On our way back from Lancaster County, we went by Hershey, PA. My memory from the last time that I passed through Hershey was that all of the streetlamps looked like chocolate kisses. We didn't find that to still be true but we did find kiss shaped streetlamps on the road leading up to the factory.
Here's our spot for today. It's OK but the past couple of nights have spoiled us.
