Stop 39: Cave City, KY
133 miles today to Cave City. We'll be here 2 nights while we visit Mammoth Cave National Park. I went online this morning and made reservations for the tours that we want to go on tomorrow. Once we were settled in here, we decided to drive up to the park just to make sure we don't mess up tomorrow. As long as we were there, we picked up our tickets so that's one thing that we won't need to worry about tomorrow. On the way back from the park, these turkeys crossed the road in front of the truck.
This campsite is quite different from the last. We've gone from being in the trees to being on a rise above the corn.
It's about 90 degrees here and it's so humid that it feels like a sauna. The caves are going to feel really good tomorrow.
Interesting note. Cave City is in Barren County which is a dry county. It's dry, but everywhere we turn we see gun shops, gun themed amusement parks and gambling casinos. The tobacco lobby is strong here and, apparently, smoking is legal just about anywhere here. Apparently, Cave City is the only exception where alcohol is concerned. They passed a law a couple of years back to allow single servings in restaurants. So far, every restaurant that has tried serving alcohol has found the liability insurance costs to be too high and stopped.
