Day 78: Sheridan, WY

Stop 47 / State 28 : Sheridan, WY

Today, we said goodbye to my sister Stacy and her husband Jack. We had a great 2 day visit in Custer. We continued our trip West while they continued East.

We had a close call getting out of the campground this morning. Coming out of our campsite, we had a long uphill gravel grade. By the last 100 feet, it was all I could do to continue forward progress without spinning the tires. But we made it! Jack and Stacy had a much easier time with the heavy duty tires that they recently put on their truck.

After all of the fruitless searching for buffalo (where they were supposed to be) yesterday, this morning we drove past a small herd that was just lazing in the grass beside the road. Today's 217 mile trip took us across the Wyoming border.

Shortly after crossing the border, noticed a very unusual geographic feature. Look closely at the next 2 pictures and you'll see that there is a cliff that divides the trees from the grassland. It's like a natural Great Wall of China that extends along the entire edge of the grassland. Pretty cool!

As we continued, we got frequent glimpses of Devils Tower peeking above everything else in the distance.

Finally, tonight's site. Not one of our favorites but it'll do.
