Day 28: Roanoke Rapids, NC

Stop 23: Roanoke Rapids, NC

Today's trip was 188 miles but it went a lot faster because it was highway all the way (first I-40 West then I-95 North).

These were pretty roads. Most of the interchanges looked like they had been carefully carved out of the tall pine forest without taking out a single tree unnecessarily (that would have made a good picture!). The treeless interchanges were heavily planted with day lilies (either solid yellow or solid orange) or Cannas (solid red).

Roanoke Rapids is a bit of a disappointment. I needed 2 stops between Charleston, SC and Williamsburg, VA. Wilmington, NC didn't disappoint. In Roanoke Rapids we thought that we might find the Roanoke River (?), maybe some rapids (?).  We can see where the river is on the map but we haven't quite been able to get to it.  Looks like it's over where all of the factories are.  We've driven all over the area and it just looks kind of depressed.

But that's not going to stop me from including the daily trailer picture:

Grant & Dana, here's why I'm not including a daily picture out the door:
